Lake Jump to benefit Sandcastles

11th Annual Lake Jump. March 20. Benefits Children’s Museum

WMOM Lake Jump

WMOM Lake Jump

(Ludington, MI–2/8/10)–It’s become the rite of spring in Western Michigan. This year’s Ludington Lake Jump promises not to disappoint. The new Ludington Lake Jump Committee announces the 11th annual event will be held at Stearn’s Park Beach on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Jumpers will take the icy plunge at 11 a.m. This year’s beneficiary is The Sandcastles Children’s Museum at the corner of Ludington Avenue and Robert Street.

The Lake Jump began as a joke 10 years ago between two WMOM personalities.
In 2001 the event was first used as a fund raiser. Since then it has generated nearly $250,000 for community projects. Last year, WMOM entrusted future events in the hands of a committee. This year’s Ludington Lake Jump is chaired by Patrick Lopeman, president of Bay View Broadcasting/WMOM.

Sandcastles Children’s Museum Board President Kristin Korendyke said that the Sandcastles Board wants to express its gratitude to the Lake Jump committee for choosing the Museum this year. “After overwhelming attendance of 13,000 people in 2009 and receiving terrific support from our community and the surrounding area, Sandcastles Children’s Museum is anxious to secure a permanent home and continue to provide an environment that encourages and inspires children to create, explore, and discover. Sandcastles is committed to providing the children of our community opportunities to learn and grow in positive ways. We are asking the community to work together to “Build a Stronger Sandcastle” and help us with our vision and donate to The Sandcastles Building Fund.
